Rhythm, Rhyme & Colour Explosion : Details
Rhythm, Rhyme and Colour Explosion was our community workshop in 2005's summer holiday. Rhythm Kitchen joined forces with Manchester based freelance artist Mimi Faulks to provide this multi-arts day workshop for under 11's. The event took place on 30th August in Horsforth, Leeds and was certainly a colourful and creative day.
During the day we busied ourselves with various creative activities. Zosia and Roger ran the junk drumming classes. In these classes the children made their own shakers and hot rod sticks and learnt to play funky rhythmic patterns with them.
"It was wonderful to see how quickly some children took to learning the rhythms, especially since we had such a short period of time and they were quite complicated." (Zosia)
With help from our wonderful volunteer team, Mimi ran the arts and theatre activities. Here the children busied themselves making costumes and colourful rainforest bugs out of recycled materials. They then went on to take part in the rainforest story, a movement and soundscaping game. Here they started to put together everything they had done throughout the day practicing for a final performance. Each child turned into a rainforest creature, put on their costumes and had their faces painted.
The day's activities concluded with a brilliant rhythmic performance. Parents and friends came along to hear our story and see what we had done.
The workshop was certainly a colourful and creative experience for all, where we all learnt new things, made new friends and most importantly had lots of fun.
