A day of creative reusing and recycling in Leeds.

“By beating out rhythms on any old rubbish we learnt the importance of reusing our discarded junk.”

The Junkyard was our 2006 summer holiday project in Leeds. There were four main creative activities that kept everyone busy throughout the day. The bubble wrap and duct tape flew and whilst some teams were busy designing robots and creating costumes, others played on junk instruments improvising and exploring different ways of playing everyday objects like bicycle wheels, plastic bins, and pots and pans. In the afternoon it soon became clear who the skilful circus poi spinners were.

The day was finished off with a short performance of poi spinning and playing. This was a perfect opportunity for parents, guardians and friends to come along and see how much fun everyone had had. After the performance, all that remained was to vote for the best-looking robot - In deed a tough decision. The Rhythm Kitchen staff were certainly pleased this was left up to the audience to decide on.

It was totally ace building the robots, we even stayed in at lunch to finish bits off.
